Grand Marshals

The 2024 Grand Marshals are Pat Miller and Gail Stratton

Gail (L) and Pat (R) with their son William.

Pat Miller and Gail Stratton, notable figures in Oxford, Mississippi, have been central to the LGBTQ+ rights movement for over 30 years. Their partnership, characterized by love and resilience, has been a source of inspiration and advocacy. Their diverse backgrounds—Pat hailing from Oxford and Gail from Los Alamos, New Mexico—cultivated in them a shared love for nature and biology, uniting them on a lifelong journey together in Oxford. Together, they've raised their son, contributed to academic discourse through their teaching positions in biology at Northwest Mississippi Community College and the University of Mississippi, respectively, and continue their research at the University of Mississippi field station in Abbeville.

Their commitment to the community extends beyond their professional achievements. Gail, as a community minister and active member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Oxford, alongside Pat, has worked tirelessly to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and broader social justice issues. Their leadership in Oxford’s PFLAG chapter for a decade and their presence at marriage equality vigils are testament to their dedication to equality and justice.

As Oxford prepares for Pride, Pat and Gail’s legacy—a testament to the power of individual commitment to community transformation—reminds us of the continuous drive for change, fueled by love, resilience, and advocacy. Their story is a beacon for progress, inspiring ongoing efforts for a more inclusive and just community.
